Prayer to the Holy Spirit
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful. And kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And you will renew the face of the earth. Lord, by the light of the Holy Spirit you have taught the hearts of your faithful. In the same Spirit help us to relish what is right and always rejoice in your consolation. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Virtue of the Week- Self Control
The children know that they have a mind that can think and a soul that can love but the world is a big place and new thoughts and events enter our personal space quickly. Their little bodies are responding to people, sounds, culture and other stimulants all day long. Adults are too. We are meant to be out living and communicating with God’s people daily. Yet, this world can be difficult to maneuver. We all experience it and we don’t always react as we should. Our children are learning to not only survive in this big world but to thrive in it. That is why self-control is an important virtue. It is as simple as listening, waiting, thinking, trying until you get it right, holding your tongue, and asking for God’s guidance through prayer. Self control is the habit and action of thinking before you act.
The Prayer to the Holy Spirit reminds us to ask God to “fill the hearts of the faithful,” “and kindle in them the fire of your love.” We need this prayer if we have any hope of self control. A heart that is full of fiery love can assist the brain to stop and think before the body acts. When we ask God to love us, it is possible to control ourselves and think from a place of love.
“ You have taught us to relish what is right.” Students learn to act well when they practice letting the Holy Spirit guide them with love. Prayer- love-thought-practice-self control. It is a great virtue that helps children understand that they can choose to think from a place of love and we can too.
God Bless,
